If you are running macOS Monterey 12.5.0 or earlier, and you are on a version of Pro Tools that is Monterey-qualified, then y ou are cleared to upgrade your macOS to 12.5.1 to avoid any potential security issues from Apple's vulnerability with the previous OS versions. Shortly before 7:00pm EST, I got the email that they approved it. Avid Media Composer is the most proven video editing software in the industry, trusted by professional editors in every movie-making, television, broadcast, and streaming media segment. (Hard to do on a Friday.) They have already been testing 12.5.0 since it came out in beta, and so good things have already been given a (+) on the qualifications checklist. They pulled their resources into an emergency testing session. ![]() ![]() ![]() Thus, it would be advisable to see if they could get as many eyeballs (and ears) on that macOS into testing as possible. I notified all of the product managers at Avid of the issue, and made it clear that despite Avid's qualifications, there would probably be a lot of users out there upgrading their macOS to 12.5.1 regardless if Pro Tools 2022.7 was qualified for it or not. There were legitimate issues at the time, with many features missing and an entirely new program to learn for editors that knew FCP like the back of their hands. There is an active hacking happening, and news sources hit the streets immediately. MacOS 12.5.1 was just created by Apple this week because of a serious security issue found. ![]()
